Answer:
The annual fee will be paid every year starting from the 3rd year from the application date.
The patent is then renewed each year before the “expiration date” (the last day of the month of the first application date).
Patents can be renewed up to 3 months before the due date.
The annual fee can still be legally paid within 6 months after the due date, but a surcharge fee of 50% needs to be paid.
If the payment is not made within 6 months after the due date, the patent will be expired.

There are three payment methods. You can pay your patent fees to the EPO by:
1. Deposit account held with the EPO; 2. Credit card; 3. Bank transfer.

1. Deposit Account:
   Deposit accounts are debited based on an electronic debit note signed by the account holder or authorized representative.

2. Credit card
   You can pay the fees online by credit card. This is a secure and flexible method of instant payment.

3. Bank transfer
   You can prepare a bank transfer by submitting an order online through our fee payment service.

Steps for online payment through the EPO’s Central Fee Payment system

Step 1: Create an account
Log on to the EPO website: https://epo.org/fee-payment-service/.
Register Account: Enter Email and related information to register an account.
Login account:

Step 2. Select the option you want:
Select “Pay fees”

Step 3. Select Program:
Select “EP”

Step 4. Enter the application number: 171533326

Step 5. Select the fee group:
Select “RENEWAL FEES”. And choose which year of the annuity.

Step 6. Add to cart and continue.

Step 7. Checkout.
Choose Payment method: 1. Deposit account, 2. Credit card, 3. Bank transfer

Deposit accounts are debited based on an electronic debit note signed by the account holder or authorized representative.
